The Three "R's" of Child Rearing

The philosophy of hedonism, the doctrine that pleasure and happiness is the highest good, plagues our society. Modern America has programmed its entire culture around this philosophy. Don spends this lesson teaching the congregation how to train the children out of this culture.

The Three "R's"
  1. Respect

  2. Responsibility

  3. Resourcefulness
Respect

  • I Peter 2:13
  • I Timothy 3:1-12

Responsibility

  • Philippians 4:11-13

To be responsible means sometimes having to say that I have been
irresponsible. Our society teaches 3 strains of determinism in an
effort to alleviate responsibility of being irresponsible.

  • Genetic Determination - My DNA has programmed me to be a certain way
  • Psychic Determination - My Parents programmed me to act a certain way
  • Environmental Determination - There are factors outside of me (my boss, the politicians, my wife, my teacher, et. al.) that are preventing me from acting or forcing me to act a certain way
  • Galatians 6
Resourcefulness
  • Give them jobs they can't possibly do and then make them figure it out.
  • I Peter 2:5,9-12
