Whenever we retell the Christmas story, we come to the part about the message of the angels, and something doesn't seem right. Listen again to what they say, (
Luke 2:14) At first hearing, it sounds like the promise is given for peace to come to earth because Jesus, the Messiah, is to be born. But any way you look at it, this does not appear to be the case - there has not been peace.
Were the Angels lying when they said, "Peace on Earth"? Where's the Peace? Is this a promise a blessing? "
Peace" (the Hebrew is "Shalom") a sacred blessing
Luke 10:5,6 - "When you enter a house, first say, `Peace to this house.' If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
"Is my house a place where "Sons and Daughters of Peace" reside?
Romans 8:6 - The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.
But Jesus had tried to make it clear to them - the kingdom of God is within, it is a rule of the heart.
