I'm having some difficulties getting the audio uploaded. Here are the notes for now. I'll post the audio as soon as I figure out why it has decided to not work. - Randy

Revelation 1:17-2:7

  1. God's Intent: Live Well

    Question: Are you living Well?

  2. God's Plan: Walk Worthy

    Glancing at the Concordance

    Ephesians 4:1-3
The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

    It’s not about you!

The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness.

You can’t get there from here. You must start from the other side of the mountain!” In the same way, you cannot arrive at your life’s purpose by starting with a focus on yourself. You must begin with God, your Creator. You exist only because God wills that you exist. You were made by God and for God—and until you understand that, life will never make sense. It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance, and our destiny

    Question: Are you walking worthy?

  3. God's Blessing: Family & Body
    • I Peter 2:17 (NIV) - Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

    • I Peter 2:17 (Message) - Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the Government

    • I Peter 2:17 (NLT) - Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters.

Question: Are you one of the family?

Vengeance is Mine by Don Campbell

Luke 6:27-28

We can trust God with Injustice, because God is the God of Vengeance.
No, that’s the God of the Old Testament
  • Malachi 3:6 – I the Lord do not change - also Will a man rob God?
  • Hebrews 13:8 – the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever

No, you say, God is the God of Love. Yes, and more...
Vigilante Vengeance – action
Vindictive Vengeance – attitude

Lev. 19:18 - Do not seek revenge (action ) or bear a grudge (feelings)

God has a plan
It’s God’s prerogative

Will a man rob God? If you take revenge or harbor vengeance in your heart…you rob God of what is His…Vengeance is MINE says the Lord.

Tomorrow is the day of justice.
Today is the day of mercy.

Matt. 5:7 – Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy – axiomatic
James 2:12-13 – judgment without mercy to anyone who has not been merciful.

God will avenge at the Best Time. There is a day coming and it is circled in red….the day of vengeance the day of the Lord.

Rev. 14:17 – the wine press of God’s wrath
2 Thess. 1:6 – not two God’s – I the Lord do not change

Feel like you have suffered injustice? Take your injustice to the foot of the cross and see how small it is compared to the injustice Jesus suffered because of your sin.

Shepherding a Child's Heart by Don Campbell

We must shepherd their thoughts, helping them learn DISCERNMENT and WISDOM (God’s Wisdom).

Our goal is not just to have well behaved children but they need to know WHY they sin and HOW to recognize spiritual change in their lives.

It involves an investment of your life in your child’s life. It requires open and honest communication that reveals the meaning and purpose of life.

Values are not taught...they are caught. The shepherd doesn’t say to the sheep, "go up that hill"...the shepherd walks up the hill and the sheep follow.

Proverbs 13:20 - Who they hang around is who they will become

John 13:3-5

I Chronicles 21:1-30

As we grow older we automatically grow up

The longer we walk with the Lord the more we are guaranteed immunity from sin.

We will never be immune from sin's appeal.

Today's Take-a-ways
  • To live an unaccountable life is to flirt with danger
  • To ignore sin's consequences is utterly selfish
  • To raise a temple from the ashes of failure is a glory to God.

Spiritual Formation by Don Campbell

Spiritual maturation is a deliberate process, but many of us get caught in ruts.

Hebrews 5:11-6:3 - A Call to Maturity

What is spiritual maturity?
- It is someone who has "trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."

- They can get along with folks and be unified (I Corinthians 3:1-4)

- It is someone who is firm in his beliefs (not tossed back and forth) and it is someone who "can speak the truth in love." (Ephesians 4:11-16)

- Maturity is a result of someone who has persevered through struggles. (James 1:2-4)
How do we best obtain spiritual maturity?

  2. You DO one
  3. You TEACH one

I've Got that Feeling by Don Campbell

Happiness, Contentment, & Joy
(Part 3)

"You can't make yourself feel something that you do not feel, but you can make yourself do right in spite of what your feelings are." ~ Pearl S. Buck

God's desire for you today may not be for you to be happy. God's number one desire is for Him to be glorified. He created me to glorify Him, so sometimes He is glorified more by me when I am miserable.

Why should I worship a God who doesn't want me to be happy?
Why should I stay in a marriage when I am not happy?
Why should I stay with this church when I am not happy?
Why should I stay at a job when it doesn't make me happy?

One word answer: Love

Our problem is we think that Love is a feeling. Today we will talk about the fact that love is a choice.

I Corinthians 13:4-7 - the definition of Love
- How many of these items are feelings?
- Where are the feelings in this definition of Love?

Love is a choice.
Love is a commitment.
Love is not a fuzzy feeling.

There are times when you are in a valley and you don't have warm, fuzzy feelings toward God.

Hebrews 12:2-3 - For the Joy set before him, endured...

Mark 14:32-36

The Pursuit of Happiness by Don Campbell

Happiness, Contentment, & Joy
(Part 1)

Declaration of Independence - Right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

National obsession - I want to be happy - #1 Goal

Happiness - is getting what you want

Contentment - is wanting what you get

Joy - is the positive confidence I possess by trusting God regardless of the circumstances

John 15:11
- So that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete

Psalm 37:3

Nehemiah 8:10 - The joy of the Lord is your Strength

We must ask ourselves:
Am I going to judge God by the circumstances I don't understand or judge the circumstances I don't understand in light of the character of God.

Happiness depends on chance.
Joy and Contentment depend on trusting in the character of God.

Unbroken Bread by Don Campbell

There is a running joke around the church that we can't do anything without there being a potluck Eating, breaking bread is an important part of our worship because breaking bread is about family time. It is a time to sit down and share family values and keep up-to-date on the happenings of everybody. It is a time to impart knowledge, mold thinking, and teach. If you don't have time to eat together, you don't have time to teach.

Passages where Jesus used meal time for "real time"
Matthew 9:9-13
Matthew 12:1-8
Matthew 14:13-21
John 12:1-8
Luke 22:7-20
Luke 24:30-31
Luke 24:40-45
John 21:14-17
What is Christianity all about? (Acts 2:42-47)
  • Fellowship
  • Breaking Bread (eating together, not the Lord's Supper)
  • Praying
You can not have unity if you don't spend time together.

The Altar of Incense by Don Campbell

Psalm 14:2
  • The tradition was to burn the incense in the morning and in the evening (twice a day)
  • The Jews would also pray at these times, thus the burning of the incense came to symbolize the prayers of the worshippers
Revelation 8:2-4
  • Heaven contains the altar of incense and an angel brings the censer in that contains the prayers of all the saints
  • Prayers are a sweet-smelling aroma before the Lord

2 Corinthians 2:14-16
1) Death Redeemed
  • By placing the dead flowers that have been dried in the censer and then placing the coals from the Bronze Altar into the censer, they bring the flowers back to a new life. Death has been redeemed.
  • As we spread the aroma of Christ, we will experience two different reactions. Some will be drawn to the smell (the aroma of life) and others will be repulsed by it (the aroma of death).

Genesis 27:27
2) The Scent of the Son
